010 - Credits

Content:
Although our little man failed so many times, but he said: I'm OK, I'm Good.
Thus with tons of chaotic trivial tries he keeps making, goes on along with film's credits.

Technique(s):
After Effects

009 - God

Content:
He thought it could be easier to be Him, the G0d. Well, obviously, he's been punished even just having the concept in his mind.

Technique(s):
Hand Drawing

008 - Filmmaker

Content:
With so many failures in the past, he seems having something to express. So he made a film that has all the elements he's seen in the past, he thinks it's a very clear idea that it almost like a documentary for himself. But it turns out that it is so experimental like style that audiences are totally confused. So....he failed again.

Technique(s):
Hand drawing + After Effects

Need to decide what kind of look it should be to integrate all different elements together.

007 - Diver

Content:
This time let it be Athlete. Well, the diving platform is just too high for our diver's little heart.

Technique(s):

Hand drawing in Corel Painter using Wacom Cintiq+ After Effects

The goal of this piece is exploring how far I could go with improvisational straight forward animating, in fact, it's also true in most part of my film.
Possibly will replace the background pool water with finer texture if time allows.

Finished Part:
75 percent of the animation as seen in Animatic but not edited yet.

006 - Biology Lab

Content:
In a biologic laboratory, he's trying to dissect a toad (or frog). Too nervous to kill, he failed.

Technique(s):
Fully CG in Maya

The goal of this section will be focused on lighting.
There'll be dramatic lighting changes in the scene.
It will be the major part of my demo reel as I am interested in applying a job for lighting position.

Finished Part:
Character body modeling

005 - Detective

Content:

As a detective, he's trying to solve or find out the problems in this maze-like city, but too complicated that it's out of his ability.

Technique(s):

Digital cut-out, 2 possible ways to animate.

1). Illustrator line art animated in After Effects, using it's 3D camera and fake 3D lighting.

2). Illustrator line art animated in Maya with real 3D lighting.

The goal of this section is to create a Film Noir style lighting atmosphere.

Finished Part:
Character line art

004 - Politician

Content:
Trying to convince people that they should eliminate the devil cow far away out there. As he gets more and more aggressive, his two feathers look more and more like the devil horns. People finally run away from him.

Technique (s):
Digital Cut-outs (After Effects' Puppet Tool + Illustrator's line art)

Finished Part:
character Line art

003 Hunter

Content:
First time being a human as a hunter, failed because of being afraid of being attacked by a cow.

Technique: Claymation

Want to achieve an old scratched silent movie looking.

I have helped animating one little frog for Hsin-I's thesis, straight forward animating (without storyboard in this example except with a brief idea in mind) as I prefer for most part of animation of my thesis.

002 - Walk Cycles

Content:
After spawn into dusty object in previous section, our "Being" became starting the evolution-like progress. Each stage, which is like under microscopic view, has different language saying the word "climb" and all are walking in a distinguish manner of climbing.

In this order as below:

1 - atom
2 - planet
3 -
paramecium
4 - fish
5 - dinosaur

Technique(s): Hand
Drawing + After Effects

all roles are only looking like atom, fish and so on, will not be the exact look.
And under the microscope view, on the left will be the language, on the bottom will be the years, changing along with the different roles.

001 - Opening Sequence

Content: Universe Spinning, from nothing to numerous objects
Techniques tend to be used
: Houdini or Maya

I'd like to use Houdini's "metaball" to create a scene mimicking a cell devision-like universe beginning from a singularity to a nebula.

In this animatic, it's an alternative way of using "metaball". With "block" - concrete textured block devision splitting into dust.

Both of them shouldn't be difficult either in Houdini or in Maya unless I want some specific control of animation in these Effects. Since Houdini is new to me, I will decide which to use depending on time and the learning curve.

Sep 12_a

This is the new animatic finished before last thesis meeting on Sept 5th. The FLV file is around 9MB and about 6 mins. long.

I divided my thesis into 10 sections as below:

001 - Opening Sequence
002 - Walk Cycles
003 - Hunter
004 - Politician
005 - Detective
006 - Biology Lab
007 - Diver
008 - Filmmaker
009 - God
010 - Credits

I'll explain each of them in separated posts next.

Due to my poor web skill, after struggling almost a week of building my website, I finally decide to put the thesis progress blog with A Blog service, and let my website to be done later.

Here we go...
